Long Beach Information and Brief History

Long Beach, California's fifth largest city, offers a beautiful white-sand beach, an active marina and harbor, and diversified employment base.

Long Beach was established in 1882 as Willmore City and in 1888 named the City of Long Beach. Long Beach now has one of the world's most active deep-water container ports and shipping terminals.

Oil was discovered in Long Beach in 1921, and the City still has an active oil industry. Local manufacturing includes aircraft, automobile parts, electronics, high-technology and aerospace industries.
